Arrested Development
I’ve waited two weeks to write this. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I just don’t know what to make of the fact that half of my fellow Americans decided that as bad as things were getting—they just need to get worse before we REALLY bottom out. They were willing to take that chance, so instead of taking a road that might be difficult with sacrifice and adult issues to tackle, they decided to collectively press the “snooze” button…and rolled over to go back to sleep. They decided to “whip the bird”, if you’ll pardon the expression, to the children of America and to those not yet born. Like Scarlet O’Hara, they said loud and clear: “I’ll think about that tomorrow.”
Since when did our nation become a nation of citizens content to pass along the mistakes of one generation onto the next? Have we really become a nation dominated by people who just want something for nothing, or who are just looking for their “fair share”? After all, that whole class warfare thing and pitting various groups against each other is really all Barack Obama had to run on– and it worked!
The American Experiment, even before we became the United States of America, was led by people that were brave, independent, resourceful and strong. It was never a nation of wimps, pansies and babies who needed to be told what to do every day for their entire lives.
The Pilgrims were not bland, pious people as they’re usually portrayed in old oil paintings of the first Thanksgiving. They were people of faith that had a vision to live out that faith in a place where they wouldn’t be oppressed for doing so. After years of having to hide their worship in Europe, they went across the ocean to a wilderness inhabited by a people they didn’t know and they weren’t sure how anything would work out…but they came anyway because their faith in God drove them on.
That same pioneering spirit and perseverance was evident in the women who struggled to keep farms and businesses afloat while their sons and husbands were fighting for independence. It was in the men who signed their names to the Declaration of Independence, knowing they were committing treason. It was in those rugged individuals and families who traveled west to settle the frontier.
And what would the world have done if the American population of the Greatest Generation were full of apathy as is so evident now?
Millions of Americans didn’t even bother to vote in this election. Many of those who did didn’t know basic information about the candidates that they were being asked to decide between, as these Howard Stern man-on-the-street interviews indicate. A dumbed-down electorate is a statist’s dream…and a patriots’ nightmare.
Ignorance of the past, of our history and traditions, is bringing the nation down the wrong path. When you don’t know where you’ve been or how you got there, you won’t know where you’re going, and you’ll be bound to make the same mistakes again and again. You also make yourself easy prey for all kinds of falsehoods and twisted history that’s based not on what really happened, but on what some ideologue somewhere says happened.
Our heritage as Americans is one of bravery, freedom, responsibility, hard work and being able to dream big. If these are things of the past that are being discarded by those who educate our children, how will they ever know to defend these values when they come under assault? Pop culture demeans and ridicules them and the political class brushes them aside because such values interfere with their power.
For at least the next four years, Obama’s statist/ progressive/socialist train will continue to roar through our economy bringing whatever will come. Just going by what his policies have already brought, I suppose we can expect more redistribution, more food stamps, more meager economic growth and more jobs lost. Not to mention the full-force of Obamacare (there was a reason they waited until after he faced the voters to roll it out in its entirety).
If there happens to be any improvement in the job picture or in the economy, it will be in spite of the Obama administration’s policies and regulations, not because of them. The entrepreneurial spirit and creativity that built the nation will hopefully rise up again amid the apathy and eternal adolescence that prevails at the moment.
**NOTE: Speaking of American history, a very well-done story of the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving comes from Charles Schultz’s Peanuts characters: This is America, Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers will air tomorrow night, Thanksgiving Eve on ABC (or it can also be found on You Tube)
A Time for Choosing
If you haven’t already voted today (or in early voting), here are a few quotes from wise people of the past (and at least one who’s still with us) to inspire–and in some cases to warn– you as you prepare to do your civic duty:
“When a citizen gives his suffrage to a man of known immorality he abuses his trust; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor, he betrays the interest of his country.” –Noah Webster
“Should things go wrong at any time, the people will set them to rights by the peaceable exercise of their elective rights. ” Thomas Jefferson
“The Americans are the first people whom Heaven has favored with an opportunity of deliberating upon and choosing the forms of government under which they should live. “–John Jay
“Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption.”–James Garfield
“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.” –Frederick Douglass
“Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust be men of unexceptionable characters. The public cannot be too curious concerning the character of public men.”–Samuel Adams
“Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty. “–Ronald Reagan
“Few of the great tragedies of history were created by the village idiot, and many by the village genius.”– Thomas Sowell
“The future of this republic is in the hands of the American voter.”–Dwight D. Eisenhower
“That some should be rich, shows that others may become rich, and, hence, is just encouragement to industry and enterprise.”– Abraham Lincoln
“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual–or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country. “–Samuel Adams
“Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God.”–George Washington
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”– 2 Chronicles 7:14
…and one more from President Reagan: “Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the Democrats believe every day is April 15th.”
If you’ve never listened to President Reagan’s speech “A Time for Choosing” from 1964, it’s worth listening to now, and is very applicable to what we’re facing today.
Dead Man Voting
Halloween hijinks began early as early voting continues in more than half the states in the nation. Some voters cast their ballots as long as a month ago, and this early voting thing sure opens a Pandora’s Box to all kinds of shifty shenanigans and tom foolery. It’s strange, though that the deceased, cartoon characters and people with really famous names (“Michael Jordan”) always seem to vote for Democrats.
I saw a comment following an article on voter fraud recently from someone who said, “My father always voted Republican. Since he passed away, he’s become a Democrat.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Along with consistently landing the “votes” of those in the Hereafter, Democrats also seem to be the beneficiaries of paper ballots that mysteriously turn up in the back seats of someone’s car (see Senator Al Franken, D-MN), as well as those who may or may not be legal citizens as is happening right now in Ohio. There have been reports there that busloads of Somalis are being taken to the polls where only Democrat Somali interpreters, no Republicans are assisting them in casting their ballots.
Why do these questionable activities surrounding voting always take place in what are considered battleground states? Here’s some more:
In North Carolina, voters have filed complaints because the voting machines kept defaulting to Obama when they cast their ballots for Romney. This doesn’t appear to be an isolated incident as it’s been reported in multiple counties. Voters are warned to be very careful to review their ballots before hitting the final “vote” button. This also is happening in Nevada, another “swing” state.
Also in North Carolina, Carolina Transparency, a user friendly database from the Civitas Institute, that gets data straight from the State Board of Elections, reveals an unusually large number of persons aged 112 to be voting in some of the larger counties. For example, just in Guilford County alone (a place also having voting machine problems), more than 1,000 voters on the rolls were listed as very senior citizens. Apparently, North Carolina is not only a swing state; it’s also The Fountain of Youth!
In Florida, many likely voters have been targeted with a bogus letter that appears to have come from an election supervisor warning them that they aren’t legally eligible to vote. Other voters have been called on the phone and told they can vote via telephone, which of course we know isn’t true.
And in Ohio (again) and Virginia, military voters, who tend to lean Republican are also possibly having their votes suppressed for this election. Requests for absentee ballots have dropped significantly from 2008 in spite of passing a law that was meant to boost military votes. If anyone should be allowed to vote, it should be the men and women who volunteer to put their lives on the line to protect our rights to vote (among the many other rights we have).
When spooky scenarios at the polls are exposed, the Democrats still have their friends in the media working overtime to hide important news stories from viewers (Benghazi), or to distract them with trivialities (the made-up War on Women). In case that doesn’t work, there are always the campaign ads, which are becoming more bizarre by the day. Last Thursday, I updated my most recent post about the women’s vote with a link to Obama’s ad “The First Time” which is hard to believe that was approved by a presidential candidate due to its middle school boys’ locker room mentality.
But the ads keep coming. Portly left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore teamed up with moveon.org (supported by George Soros) to put together THIS AD featuring foul-mouthed senior citizens. It’s almost too hard to believe that this ISN’T a parody done by Saturday Night Live. You have to see it to believe it.
Another you have to see to believe features brainwashed children singing about the horrors that will befall us if Mitt Romney becomes president (“strip mines are fun and free”?????). The Future Children Project is a creepy rundown of left-wing imaginings coming out of the mouths of babes. It’s nice that it came out in time for Halloween, though. What horror film of the classic variety is worth its salt if it doesn’t have, at some point in the film, the disembodied innocent voices of a devilish children’s choir hovering over the most intense scenes? The Children of the Future…seems more like the Children of the Corn. It’s propaganda at its best– Joseph Goebbels would be so proud.
I only hope that sane people will outnumber the zombie vote and that the horror story of high unemployment, big government spending, over-regulation and the shredding of the Constitution will soon come to and end.
Hell Hath No Fury
Several years ago, Mel Gibson starred in a movie called “What Women Want” where he played a divorced chauvinistic advertising executive who gets electrocuted one night during a thunderstorm. After this, he finds he’s able to read the minds of any women in his path (even female dogs walking down the street).
If such a thing were possible in real life, the Democrat party could use a shock as they continue to attempt to manipulate the female vote by claiming the Republicans are waging a war against them.
I personally get sick and tired of hearing from the president on down about how women should be outraged because Mitt Romney supposedly wants to put us all back into the Stone Age. They use the same tactic to sway Black voters by telling them, as Joe Biden once did, “they want to put y’all back in chains!”
It’s shameless and it’s insulting our intelligence. If we believed them, we would think that the only two things important to women are free contraception and unlimited abortion (in the event the first thing doesn’t work). The president and his supporters continually talk down to women and claim they know what we’re thinking…and that we all think the same! I think that’s what’s most infuriating.
Just one of the many examples of this came recently from an Obama campaign spokeswoman when she went so far as to say this: “That’s the other thing that you find most often with women. They’re not really concerned about what’s happened over the last four years, they really want to know what’s going to happen in the next four years.”
Huh?! If that isn’t talking down to women, I’m not sure what is. Women are more than capable of caring about what’s already been AND what’s coming, especially if it’s more of the same. We aren’t stupid…we’re in grocery stores all the time and can make the connection between the poor economy, high gas prices and the higher costs of everything we buy. We’re often the ones who write out checks for utilities and we can see that we’re paying more for less than we were four years ago. We understand that the policies the president has tried have not made things better, and in some cases, they’re much worse.
We get that another four years on this same course will be detrimental to future generations who will be left to foot the bill for the current big spending. We care about children who aren’t even old enough to vote yet—people without a voice– that are already being negatively affected by the poor decisions of today’s politicians.
After last week’s second presidential debate, the media pounced on a comment Mitt Romney made when asked about equal pay. He spoke of getting a binder full of women from a non-partisan women’s group when he became governor of Massachusetts in order to fill some high-level positions with qualified females. Because he neglected to say the binders were of women’s resumes the lame-brain talking heads (knowing full well what he meant) all jumped on the bandwagon of idiocy to scream that Mitt was so out of touch with women that he didn’t just know some off the top of his head that he could hire.
Instead of focusing on things women really care about, the media and the Obama campaign (is there a difference?) want women to believe that Mitt Romney is some sort of sexist pig who wants to take away their birth control and abortion rights, which as we’re told, are the foundations of women’s health care. Women who believe this way are usually found in Hollywood and in the halls of Congress with a “D” after their names.
If these Masters of Condescension really want to know what women want, here’s a few things: we want a president who loves the country he serves and the Constitution he took an oath to uphold; we want leadership, not a bullying smart-aleck kid who blames everyone else for his failures; we want to be able to find good jobs, start our own businesses and pursue our dreams without constantly running into some government regulation that ties our hands; we want to know that the country we leave for those who come behind us is better and stronger than the one we inherited.
Put simply, we want what most people want: freedom. It doesn’t take a mind reader to figure it out. The elites in power would have to give up some of that power, and that’s not something they ever want to do. At least in the Mel Gibson movie, his character learned his lesson and became a better man in the end. Hopefully, there are enough voters—including women—who will be willing to teach this administration a lesson when they cast their ballots.
10/25/12 UPDATE: The Obama campaign’s latest ad “reaches out” to women, particularly young ones, in an innuendo-filled spot that’s not only crude, but very un-presidential. Check it out for yourself HERE.
You’ve Got (Hate) Mail
Everybody knows at least one. You might even be related to one. The people who– no matter what happens– will still cast their vote for Barack Obama in November. In spite of your best efforts to persuade them otherwise and what their own eyes and ears are telling them, they will still cast a vote that will cancel out yours (if you are not voting for O). These aren’t just liberals…these are Obamatons.
Most of them look like perfectly normal people, not the screaming idiots you see defecating on police cars at an Occupy Wall Street gathering. But when they’re confronted with an opinion they don’t share, they aren’t content to just move on with their lives. They must get even with you somehow, because how dare you express yourself? This is playing out all over the internet, but Facebook has brought it to a whole new level. People who probably barely knew each other are “un-friending” their Facebook friends who disagree with them politically.
I experienced this just recently myself. I was not the one who lost a friend—it was one of my friends who had been un-friended. But I was the one who felt the wrath of a looney leftist who just couldn’t keep her mouth shut. It all started with this picture and caption that was shared by my sister:
The first comment was from someone I’ll only refer to as KT (she’s already made a fool of herself in one public place- just trying to show compassion). KT told my sister that she didn’t agree with her politics, so she was no longer going to be her friend. (Grab a Kleenex!). The next comment came from another of my sister’s FB friends commenting on the narrow-mindedness of KT by asking her why friends can’t agree to disagree on things. Then I saw the posting and added my two cents: “With friends like (KT) who needs enemies?”
That was all I said. For this, I got a message from this total stranger that said the following:
“U don’t f***ing know who I am and I don’t care to know who the f*** you are. I can express my opinions. I am not UR friend. IDK who the f*** U R! Shut ur pie hole you white redneck, B! Leave me the F*** alone!!!”
Of course, she didn’t have asterisks in her message to me. She had obviously blocked me after she sent this, but what she didn’t know was that I have another Facebook account. I went in to look her up so that I could find out whatever she allows strangers (who aren’t blocked by her) to see.
I was surprised to find that she was much older than I thought she was (judging from her writing and how she initially expressed herself in the original post). I thought this was some high school, college or even middle school kid (“I am not UR friend”), but what I found was that this person was a grandmother…she goes to church…and likes country music. Who wouldn’t love someone like that?
On the other hand, she’s also a reckless, immature, rude and racist woman who accuses others of the bad behavior that she herself is guilty of displaying. For some strange reason, she saw me as someone who was suppressing her opinion, but who was the one that un-friended my sister for expressing her conservative views? Then she tells me to leave her alone, which is really unhinged, since I had not been in communication with her ever in my life. She reminds me of our president, the man she will undoubtedly be voting for soon. He doesn’t like to be around those that disagree with him either, and he acts just as childish as KT when confronted with an opposing viewpoint.
Back in March, The Daily Beast had an article about social networking friends and followers parting ways over politics. Howard Kurtz wrote, “Overall, most people take a live-and-let-live attitude. Two-thirds say they simply ignore posts with which they don’t agree.” Apparently, KT belongs to the other one-third.
I have Facebook friends that I know are liberal, but I don’t want to un-friend them because I like them as people. Now, when drive-by commentators leave comments here on these posts and they start insulting me, my writing or my beliefs…or they ramble on and on about something, I’m not going to respond. I don’t have time to go back and forth with them, and I make no money doing this. If they want to sound off about some progressive/ anarchist/ you-name-it stuff, they should call Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity—they love arguing with those people and get paid big bucks to do it.
I’ve been pretty clear since I started this blog that I’m no fan of Obama—never voted for him and never will. Most people who come here know what they’re going to get when they visit here because I haven’t exactly been hiding it.
If you still want to vote for Obama, go ahead. That’s your business. I really believe we have a clear difference in worldviews to choose from this time. Sometimes—but certainly not all the time– you can tell the character of a candidate by observing the people that support him or her. I’m just doing a public service here for Obama supporters because I think you should know the kind of people UR standing with (sorry, couldn’t resist).
The News We Never Hear
A few months ago, I wrote a post called “The Ugly Truth” where I wrote about the infiltration of members of the Muslim Brotherhood into the highest levels of our government, including the State Department and Homeland Security. This infiltration is part of the plan of the Muslim Brotherhood to destroy the West from within, as stated in one of the organization’s own documents known as The Project. They’ve been working their plan…and unfortunately for freedom-loving people, their plan is working.
Even as the “Arab Spring” was happening in early 2011, the Obama administration and the media—wait, those are one in the same—were telling us this movement was mostly “peaceful” and would usher in democracies in these nations. What took hold instead –namely in Egypt– was the Muslim Brotherhood, which we were told was a “largely secular” organization. Not so. They are deeply committed to the goals of political Islam, including implementation of worldwide “sharia law”.
When we found ourselves on the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 2001 a couple of weeks ago, it became another day of violence and death for 4 Americans, including our ambassador to Libya. Instead of calling this what it was from the beginning—a planned terrorist attack against our interests in a foreign country—Obama and friends wanted us to believe the violence was the result of protests against a You Tube video that no one until that time had even seen. The video supposedly makes the prophet Mohammed look bad, and so was offensive to Muslims.
We were supposed to believe that all of these protests just happened to break out on September 11th and that a poorly-written, poorly-acted video that had been on You Tube since July was the culprit behind all the mayhem and the deaths. Then came the calls for Google to remove the video from You Tube, but they refused saying that it didn’t violate their standards. The unknown film director was taken in by federal authorities and questioned on a “separate matter”. One of the actresses (I use the term loosely) also tried to get Google to take it down, saying that the director had misled her and now she was getting death threats (the judge ruled against her). Google has since blocked the video’s access to countries like Egypt and Cairo- as if most of those causing trouble watched it anyway. They were much too busy burning our flag and shouting, “Death to America!”
The calls for some suspension of our First Amendment freedom of speech aren’t just coming from random protesters in far-away countries who hate us, although that’s definitely the case. They’ve been coming for some time from the far left in our country, who blames conservative talk radio anytime a lone gunman walks into a public place and murders people. Just yesterday Slate.com posted an article called “The World Doesn’t Love the First Amendment”. The article is attempting to make the case that, since we are now a global society linked by the new media, we need to think about what might be offensive to people in other countries who do not have our constitutional freedom of speech.
Since when does everyone on the face of the earth have the right to NOT be offended? What’s a joke to one, offends another. What’s art to this person is blasphemy to that person. Who will decide? That’s where the Muslim Brotherhood’s “Project” comes in. If you were to read The Project, you would know that in order to achieve their goal of one world under Islam, they must silence any opposition—including that of the moderate followers of Islam.
Are you aware that this week, as the United Nations General Assembly continues, members of several Muslim nations are calling for a UN worldwide blasphemy law that bans any insults of the prophet Mohammed? They’ve wanted this for years, but are now using the bad You Tube video for leverage in pleading their case.
Did you further know that Hillary Clinton has already given support to a so-called “religious tolerance” resolution (Resolution 16/18 of the UN’s Human Rights Council) in conjunction with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ? This has already occurred, so it’s not just some conspiracy theory which we can brush off and say, “That will never happen.” What else can we expect from the Secretary of State whose “right-hand woman” has very close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood?
It took the Obama administration more than a week to finally admit the attacks on our embassies were terrorist attacks. He said as much yesterday on “The View”, but even after that appearance, he spent a lot of time in his speech to the UN last night talking about that stupid video! His speech also included this little gem of a statement: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.” Wasn’t it nice that he threw that bone to Christians and Jews? Judging by his actions, his mindset is more in line with the Muslim Brotherhood than with that of the prime minister of Israel or the Pope.
Michelle Malkin has a really good article today related to this topic (“Who Is White House Visitor Hisham Altalib?”). I encourage you to read it and to decide whether you believe this is enough of a threat to our nation to tell others about it. If you’re reading this and you still believe that it doesn’t matter who wins the election in November, you need to wake up and smell the coffee…quickly! You’ve not been paying attention to the signs of the times and have a lot of catching up to do before then.
Ready for a Challenge?
Our personal liberties and the Constitution were dealt a severe blow yesterday as the Supreme Court of the United States upheld Obamacare in its entirety. The real kick in the teeth to conservatives and Constitution lovers everywhere was that Chief Justice John Roberts, a supposedly reliable “conservative” justice appointed by President George W. Bush, cast the deciding vote by siding with the leftists on the Court. Progressives come in all stripes, but his decision was a shocker.
What we learned yesterday from Justice Roberts is: a.) something is a tax when it’s convenient for it to be a tax; and b.) elections have consequences.
On the first point, all we heard during Congress’ pushing through of this “healthcare” law (from those doing the pushing) was how this was NOT a tax on the American people. The biggest pusher of all was Obama himself. During an interview with George Stephanopoulos, who was mysteriously overcome with the desire to be a real journalist, Obama was pressed on this issue over whether the law is actually a tax. George even quoted the dictionary definition of what a “tax” is and asked Mr. President to explain how it isn’t a tax—at which time BO mocked him for thinking that words actually mean things and for consulting a dictionary.
The reason Roberts gave for his support was that Obamacare doesn’t work if they try to use the Commerce Clause and mandate that everyone buy it. He did, however declare that as a tax, it would fall within Congress’ powers of taxation. Tossing the ball back to Congress, Roberts said, “It’s not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices.” If he believed that way the day before in ruling on the Arizona immigration law, Arizonans would now be able to protect their borders without hindrance.
Roberts’ poor choice sets a dangerous precedent that Congress can tax us for anything it wants- even things we don’t do- if it wants to do so. Not only that, but they don’t have to call it a tax (when they’re trying to pass it). Congress can have their cake and eat it too.
The four dissenting judges (Kennedy, Scalia, Thomas and Alito) didn’t buy that. In fact, they believed the whole thing should be thrown out. Kennedy wrote, “It amounts instead to a vast judicial overreaching. It creates a debilitated, inoperable version of health-care regulation that Congress did not enact and the public does not expect.” [emphasis mine]…and liberals were worried that Roberts would be an activist for the right?
On the second point, one far-reaching job of all presidents is the appointing of judges. Because they’re appointed for life, it’s very important they be questioned thoroughly and pressed on issues they attempt to dodge. The mainstream media and liberal political hacks were fearful of Chief Justice Roberts and his “right-wing” court a week ago. Today, they sing his praises. Back when he was being confirmed in 2005, it’s interesting to see what people were saying about him. You don’t often find a case where then-senator and now Vice President Joe Biden agrees with the likes of Ann Coulter…but it happened then.
As reported in an AP story from September 2005, Roberts answered many of his questions with an “on the one hand, on the other hand approach.” Senator Biden said to him, “You have managed to convince Senator Brownback (a conservative) that you’re on his side, and you have managed to convince Senator Kennedy (an ultra-liberal) you’re on his side.”
In an article from July 2005 Ann Coulter raised a red flag, calling Roberts a “blank slate”, and gave these strong words of warning to conservatives that turned out to be prophetic: “…we don’t know much about John Roberts. Stealth nominees have never turned out to be a pleasant surprise for conservatives. Never. Not ever.” That surely was the case yesterday.
This is why elections matter. Every vote (we hope) matters. Are you registered? Find out here, and get other conservatives, libertarians—anyone you know who is concerned about how things have been going these past few years. I’ve heard estimates that as many as 30% of active members of Tea Party and other pro-liberty groups are NOT registered to vote. This has to change this year if we hope to begin to change the course we’re on for the nation we love.
If yesterday wasn’t enough to get you to the polls in November, consider this: Supreme Court Justice Eric Holder.
Hold Fast Our Freedoms- Guest Commentary
**The following brief article was written by my father to the editor of his local paper, The Batavia Daily News. It was one of many conservative opinion pieces he wrote. There was no date on it, but I have to assume that it was pre-2009, so as you read it, keep that in mind. We now know the downhill slide that Europe is currently on…for example, he notes unemployment rates at the time for various EU nations- Spain’s rate was 52.1% in March 2012–nearly five times what it was when he wrote this! This is the same road we’ve been taking over the past three and a half years or more. We’ve just celebrated our nation’s Independence Day, so freedom (or lack of it) has been on the minds of many of us. We need to seriously think about what we’re going to be– free, responsible individuals, or slaves to an overgrown, broken state.**
We are losing our freedom every day. There are too many Americans who believe we should take programs from some of the Third World countries. Sure, they have some great programs for the ones lucky enough to have a job, but take a look at their unemployment rate: Italy, 8.5 percent; France, 9.4 percent; Belgium, 8.6 percent; Spain, 11.1 percent; Denmark, 6 percent; Poland 18.9 percent; United States, 5.6 percent and United Kingdom, 4.7 percent. The European Union governments are waking up to the fact that they will have to cut benefits and you know how well that will go with the people.
The United States’ GDP (gross domestic product) per capita was a whopping 32 percent higher than the EU average in 2000 and the gap hasn’t closed since. A new study by Sweden–a bastion of cradle-to-grave nannystatism– shows that the European standard of living has fallen far off the pace of American life.
Wake up, America, just remember these words of Abraham Lincoln, “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
